I have said before that Kristen Heitzmann has become one of my favorite authors. I just finished reading her trilogy about the Michelli family. My favorite of the three would have to be the second book, Unforgotten.
Without giving away any spoilers, I will say this book touched my faith in a way that few fictional books ever have. The struggles of Lance Michelli, who so desperately wants to follow God's path, is both compelling and frightening. Lance sees himself only as a second-rate son, one who always makes the wrong choice and rarely has the capacity to see decisions through to the end. In book two he is caught between uncovering long hidden family secrets and building a relationship with the woman he has come to love. By trying to honor both, he seems destined to fail. And will what God asks of him be more than he can bear?
The faith and struggles of this fictional character scalded me. I see in Lance my own desire to follow the Lord's will, but so often fall short in the follow through. His passion spurned within me a yearning for that same oneness with the Lord, as well as a fear of how that would play out in my own personal life. But at the end of the day, I need to do as Lance did, and trust that the Lord is good. Whatever his plan is, he will give grace and strength to fulfill it.
The first book in this series is "Secrets", and it is a definite must to start at the beginning! I would recommend this to any adult who enjoys reading fiction, particularly romantic suspense.
