This children's book is a touching story about a Grandmother who helps her granddaughter deal with a situation involving bullies at school. As an educator myself, I appreciate this light-hearted and positive approach to a prevalent problem in our schools.
Katie is a first grader with a chipped tooth. After a day at school when other girls mock her for it, Grandma pulls Katie onto her lap and tells her a story about an embarrassing event in her life. From the title, you can guess what the story was. Grandma's false teeth went flying through the air during a church social!
This sweet tale is advertised for children twelve and under. While this is most likely appropriate for the book's readability, I would hesitate to gift it to a twelve year old. In my experience, most children don't like to read books whose main characters are much younger than them. It makes them feel like they are reading "baby" books...whether that is accurate or not. Having said this, I would definitely recommend it for a kindergarten through second grade classroom. It has a great character building lesson embedded in it!
